Mexico Tourist Cards
You will NOT need a Mexican Tourist Card if:
  1. You're stay in Mexico is less than 72 hours.
  2. You're staying within one of the tourists corridors / "border zones".

So, if you are staying longer than 72 hours OR staying outside of the border zones, you WILL need a tourist card.

The tourist corridors or "border zones" are:
  1. Sonoyta - Puerto Penasco
  2. Tijuana - Ensenda
  3. Cuidad Juarez- Paguime
  4. Pedras Negras - Santarosa
  5. Renosa - China - Presa el Cuchillo

If you need a Mexican Tourist card, they are available at different border crossing points or from U.S. cities in border areas. These cards are also available at some Mexican tourist offices and some Mexican airline offices.

Each person in your group will need to have their own separate tourist card.

If you get a Tourist Card in the U.S., you will need to have the card stamped by Mexican Immigration officials upon entering Mexico.

The cost of each Tourist Card is approximately $20, depending on the value of the peso to the U.S. dollar.

NOTE: Traveling in BAJA Penisula - even though you do not need a vehicle permit (even if traveling to the end of the peninsula, see Vehicle Permits, you still must have a tourist card traveling south of Maneadero.

ID Needed to Obtain a Tourist Card:
U.S. and Canadian Citizens need to provide proof of citizenship and a photo ID. A Passport is recommended.

If you do not have a passport, the following can be used:
  1. Birth Certificate - original or Certified copy
  2. Naturalization Certificate
  3. Consular Report of Birth Abroad
  4. Certificate of Citizenship

Valid Photo Id's: Drivers License, Military ID or Canadian ID card.

Other Nationalities - if you are not a citizen of the U.S. or Canada, you will need to provide a valid passport and a U.S. Alien Registration card.
